Behind the Curtain: Pakistan’s Political Theater

Introduction: A Day in March and an Unfiltered Discussion

Hello and Assalam-o-Alaikum! Another day, another conversation, and I, am here with you once again. Today is March 7, and as the clock ticks past midnight in Pakistan, I have a lineup of topics that are bound to stir up some emotions.

First, let’s talk about the nomination of Mehrang Baloch for the Nobel Peace Prize—a moment of pride but also one that brings its fair share of grievances.

So, let’s begin.

Mehrang Baloch: A Nobel Nomination and A Moment of Reflection

Mehran Baloch Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize 2025

Mehrang Baloch is an incredibly brave woman. Every Pakistani with a heart full of passion and love for this country should take pride in her nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. I, personally, am filled with admiration and respect for her.

But while we celebrate, there’s also a lingering question—why do we only celebrate selective achievements? If we’re handing out awards, then shouldn’t Maryam Safdar (Maryam Nawaz) also be recognized for her outstanding acting skills? In fact, if there’s one award she truly deserves, it’s the Best Actress Oscar! At the very least, she should have received a nomination. Every time she sees a camera, she delivers a performance that could put seasoned actors to shame.

The Drama at Mayo Hospital: A Masterclass in Political Acting

Speaking of Maryam Nawaz, her recent visit to Mayo Hospital in Lahore was nothing short of a full-fledged drama production. The way she berated the hospital’s Medical Superintendent (MS) on camera was a performance worthy of an award.

The MS, Dr. Faisal Masood, is a highly respected doctor. He had been requesting relief from his position for two months, citing that he could not continue under these conditions. His primary concern? The government owed billions in unpaid medical bills, while only a few million had been disbursed. The hospital was struggling, yet instead of addressing his genuine concerns, he was subjected to public humiliation.

What was his crime? Simply standing his ground. But in our political system, standing up for the truth is often met with punishment.

The Legacy of Power: A History of Intimidation

This incident with Dr. Faisal Masood is not unique. We’ve seen this pattern before, especially during the rule of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif.

One particular case stands out—a senior officer once refused to bow to Shahbaz Sharif’s excessive pressure. The result? His career was destroyed. His official file even had a handwritten note from Nawaz Sharif, stating that this individual should never be given field duty again.

It’s a cycle of control and intimidation, one where dissent is not tolerated, and speaking the truth can cost you everything.

Political Theater: The Illusion of Progress

In the world of politics, perception is everything. Just take a look at how Shahbaz Sharif presents himself. He acts like the perfect leader, an efficient administrator who has everything under control. And yet, beneath this polished exterior, the reality is quite different.

For instance, the media is constantly fed the narrative that Pakistan is thriving. Shahbaz Sharif’s government claims the country is on the brink of economic takeoff. But what’s the truth?

  • Pakistan’s GDP growth has dropped to below 1% (as per Dr. Hafiz Pasha).
  • Electricity prices are soaring, yet the public is told they are decreasing.
  • Industries like textile mills are shutting down, but the government continues to paint a picture of prosperity.

The disconnect between rhetoric and reality has never been wider.

The Trump Connection: How Power Narratives are Shaped

Interestingly, this manipulation of truth isn’t unique to Pakistan. Even Donald Trump—the master of grandstanding—needed a trophy moment during his State of the Union address.

There was talk of capturing a high-value terrorist, a supposed major figure in ISIS. But the reality? The captured individual was not even close to what was claimed. It was just another instance of political theater, designed to create the illusion of power and control.

Final Thoughts: The Unforgivable Truth

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the political reality of our time.

  • Those who play by the rules of power get awards, recognition, and protection.
  • Those who challenge the status quo get humiliated, imprisoned, or erased.

This is where we stand. The political stage is set, the actors are performing, and the script is being followed. But the question remains: who will write the next chapter?
